Facebook Lookalike Ads for Kickstarter Crowdfunding

How to make a high converting facebook ad

Facebook advertising is a great way to generate traffic for your project, especially if you don’t have fans yet.  There are several things that go into it, namely the text components, the headline, your featured image, and of course the destination URL, which needs to show something very similar to what the ad is proposing.  There are also a number of targeting things beneath the hood that dictate how much you’ll spend and who the ad should be shown to you.

The first thing to do in setting up your ad is to complete the landing page or wherever you’ll be sending traffic.  Next, you want to make sure that you have a special tracking code, called a pixcil, installed on this page, this way you can send visitor specific ads down the line using something called retargeting.  But for now, go ahead and create your Facebook pixcil, and place it in the code of your website, so that it can begin tracking your visitors.

How to Find Best Fundraising Sites on the Web

Implement your inbound content strategy:
So now that you have outlined the editorial strategy and you know what you are going to post about, I’m going to teach you how to have the best results for when this content is posted to your blog.  Some people call this SEO, but the best way to think of it is “content”, because you really are writing for humans rather than machines, but the goal is to get people to organically discover your content.  When you think of headlines and headlands throughout your article, it’s important to focus on your main keywords.  And the content strategy is only “turned on” when people who find you have a way of contacting you.

Backer updates are possibly one of the most important things you’ll do during your funding.  They play a major role in training your backers to become more than just financial contributors, - this is your team, and you are the coach, and you can use updates as a way of giving people the behind the scenes ride that they have been looking for, and also you can look at your updates as your “blog” - just like people who blog frequently are most likely to attract attention on the internet, if you do public updates frequently you are most likely to be discovered organically from people searching for your project.  Research has shown us that successful project publish 3 updates a week.  That is almost every other day.  The language you use in these updates will help people find your project, and it also has an important role in inspiring your backers to become team members.  In this lesson I’m going to show you the best practices for writing updates and also describe link trading.

Raise your Startup Fundraising: 3 Ways to Perks & Rewards

Project Page - why design is everything

Today we are going to look as project pages and how to build your page. The big thing about getting an upscale look are two things - color and design.  And interestingly this is what is most difficult with the Kickstarter and Indiegogo editors - they can’t support custom fonts or columns, so what we recommend is to use a different program like Canva to make your iconic brand elements available through the page.  Using Section headings is a great way to introduce interesting color and font onto your page.  So I recommend going through your production document, and try to come up with headlines, before you start to write the story.

The Foolproof Indiegogo Review Strategy

Story is King:  Your editorial Strategy -

Now that you’ve made your project main points, I’m going to show you how to make them work for you.  The key in any maketing campaign, be it on social media, email, ads, or content, depends on one thing: becoming lazed-focused on the exact part of your story you are telling.  Before I explain what that looks like, I’m going to share what is the opposite - The opposite of an editorial strategy is selling the same idea the same way again and again.  So and so is the first ever dot dot dot, buy now, again and again.  Many project creators choose only one selling point and they hammer it again and again the same way, this becomes excruciatingly boring for your followers.  What they want is an interesting tidbit here and there, and for them to feel like they are getting to know different aspects of your life.  Think of dating - do you tell your same life stories on multiple dates? NO!  You gradually share more about yourself through a variety of life stories, and this helps your date know who you are.  So when you are crafting an editorial strategy, focus on variety.  Now before I share about how variety plays into your editorial strategy, its important to see where and how this is used.

Kickstarter Video Production - Tools for the Cut

Tools for video editing and the way to build your crowdfunding cut

Now I’m going to discuss video editing and what to do to ensure the best piece.

The first place to start is audio - you probably have several sound files from the microphone, and now it’s time to make it the right volume.  I recommend ableton live for audio editing, you can get a free trial of ableton live lite right here.  Just drag your sound files in, select all and click “warp” to make sure that they are not warped (ableton is a music program and it defaults to changing the files to line up with a rhythm, but for you you’ll want to uncheck this option.

How to make a compelling piece - step by step tutorial

Now I’m going to go through how to make a successful video, step by step.  You should have laid out your production plan and visuals shotlist, and also you’ve got your main points from your messaging document.  These will be useful for your interview and I’m going to show you how.

The first step is equipment.  The two musts for a good video are a SLR camera and a nice microphone.  See below for my links to either buy a used t2i or to rent.  You can rent all the equipment you need for less than a hundred dollars.  The main things that are absolutely crucial, though, are a glidecam, a super wide angle lens, and a 50mm lens that opens up to f1.8.  These are the tricks of the trade that will set your video above even many production houses, because with this you’ll be able to achieve a picture style that is much softer focus, and you’ll have engaging handheld footage that is smooth - this makes your production much faster than having to set up a tripod again and again,

Kickstarter VS Indiegogo

Case studies of good videos

Now we are going to look at what makes a video really shine.  There are three components to any video that create an immediate and lasting impression on the viewer - sound quality, background music, and image quality.  Many viewers will bounce immediately from a piece that doesn’t meet these qualities, so it’s very very important to get your instantly recognizable quality characteristics nails - this is more important than story, more important than product.  If it feels cheesy with boring or corporate background music, if the visuals are shaky or if you show them only a talking head, if the interview audio is echoey or boomy - these will destroy credibility very fast.  You’ve invested so much in your project.  Why would you risk all that by proclaiming to the world that you didn’t invest in your video? Here’s a special equation that viewers are always using to measure whether they will donate to a project - investment in video equals investment in a quality project.
